Praying on Ash Wednesday at 18th and Park Ave South

18 people ventured out to the streets last year (Union Square and Madison Square Park) to offer ashes and prayer on Ash Wednesday.  It was our second time and it was a remarkable experience. By the end of the day, we had anointed and prayed with 900+ people.  This year, let’s have an even greater presence on February 18!

We need seven teams of three people to cover Union Square, Madison Square Park and Times Square and we’ll need one team to remain at the church for those who stop during the day.  We are looking for at least 21 people to serve in this holy ministry.

An information meeting/training session will be held Feb. 8, 1 p.m. (following coffee hour).

ELCA Anti-Racism Pledge

As church we are called to confess the sin of racism, condemn the ideology of white supremacy and strive for racial justice and peace. Beyond statements and prayers, we are also called to act and respond to injustices. We invite you to commit to anti-racist actions at ELCA.org/RacialJusticePledge.

Daily Bible Verse

  • Malachi 4:1-6

5Lo, I will send you the prophet Elijah before the great and terrible day of the LORD comes. 6He will turn the hearts of parents to their children and the hearts of children to their parents, so that I will not come and strike the land with a curse.
