AshWednesday2018a

A hearty cast of GA characters ventured out last year to the local parks and street corners in NYC prepared and willing to offer ashes and pray with folks. About 20 people (including the President and Assistant to the President of Wartburg Lutheran Seminary, Iowa) split into teams to cover: Union Square, Madison Square Park, Herald Square, and Times Square. One team stayed at the church all afternoon. These folks stood with 900+ “neighbors” to pray with them by name and remind them how much God loves them.

We plan to do the same this year. We invite you to join us for this powerful and holy experience. We’ll meet for the noon service on Mar. 6 and then head out in teams afterward. Please join us.

ELCA Anti-Racism Pledge

As church we are called to confess the sin of racism, condemn the ideology of white supremacy and strive for racial justice and peace. Beyond statements and prayers, we are also called to act and respond to injustices. We invite you to commit to anti-racist actions at ELCA.org/RacialJusticePledge.

Daily Bible Verse

  • Malachi 4:1-6

5Lo, I will send you the prophet Elijah before the great and terrible day of the LORD comes. 6He will turn the hearts of parents to their children and the hearts of children to their parents, so that I will not come and strike the land with a curse.
