Our Synod is hosting: STONEWALL 50/PRIDE CELEBRATIONS: JUNE 23 & JUNE 30. This year we have a robust opportunity to proclaim the Good News of new life in Christ to the LGBTQIA+ community.
This year’s Pride celebration in June will mark the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. In honor of this anniversary, New York’s Pride has been named World Pride. It is the first time that a Pride celebration outside of Europe has been given this distinction. The world is coming to New York this June. As part of the celebration, MNYS will be hosting a Pride Mass to start Pride Week. Sunday, June 23 at 5:00 pm at St. John’s, Manhattan. (Across the street from the Stonewall Inn.) The Rev. Kevin Strickland, Assistant to the Presiding Bishop, will preach, and The Rev. Amanda Nelson, Executive Director of ELM, will preside. A reception will follow to provide a time for fellowship.
In addition, Theatre at St. John’s invites you to make a night of it in the West Village. At 8 pm, settle in as the curtain rises on GALAS, this year’s Pride month offering. This production pays tribute to The Ridiculous Theatrical Company, and founders Charles Ludlam and Everett Quinton. Everett is a member of Grace and St. Paul’s, Manhattan, and will be directing and starring in this wonderful farce that draws its inspiration from the life of opera diva, Maria Callas.
While you have your calendar out for saving dates, remember that the Pride March is on Sunday, June 30 this year. More details regarding the MYNS marching unit to follow.
