What's Happening at GA

Pentecost 2020 - 5/31

Before the pandemic, we were planning to confirm for our young people on Pentecost. To add to the celebration, we had invited Rev. Keven Vandiver, assistant to the bishop for Manhattan, to be our guest preacher. We are thankful, in spite of all the changes in our schedules, that he will still be able to join us in worship next Sunday.

Check in with Neighbors

We encourage you to check in with neighbors who might need some extra encouragement right now. We will support each other as we navigate this new reality.

We trust that God brings life out of death and hope out of uncertainty. And we pray this beautiful prayer adapted from the New Zealand Prayer Book:

God of the present moment,
God who in Jesus stills the storm
and soothes the frantic heart;
bring hope and courage to us
as we wait in uncertainty.
Bring hope that you will make us the equal
of whatever lies ahead.
Bring us courage to endure what cannot be avoided,
for your will is health and wholeness;
you are God, and we need you.
Amen.

Worship in the Home

Available each week on the ELCA worship blog are materials for “Worship in the Home.” Although various formats of livestreaming worship work well in many contexts, you are encouraged to worship as you are able in homes on Sunday and throughout the week. Consider ways to pray and sing using this resource at home. If you don’t have a hymnal at home, perhaps churches might safely distribute copies for home use. In addition to Sunday worship resources, Daily Prayer in the Home is available, providing simplified forms of Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer and Night Prayer, as well as table prayers.”

Christ in our Home

With the outbreaks of coronavirus disease in North America and around the world many people may be without a physical copy of Christ in Our Home. To assist with devotional life during this time, Augsburg Fortess is offering a limited-time complementary email subscription.

Daily Bible Verse

31 May 2020

  • 1 Corinthians 12:3b-13

    12For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. 13For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one body — Jews or Greeks, slaves or free — and we were all made to drink of one Spirit.

Collecting Food for the Hungry and Homeless

As the weather begins to change, life for those who are hungry and homeless becomes even more difficult. Please bring non-perishable food items and place them in the baskets at the sanctuary entrance. The food we collect will be taken to the food pantry at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lower Eastside.

Healing Services

We offer brief healing services on the 1st and 3rd Sundays each month. These are powerful times of anointing and prayer. They are held in the sanctuary after the 11 AM service.
