"Ashes and Prayer" in the Square

We will venture out to the streets (Union Square, Madison Square Park, and Times Square) to offer ashes and prayer on Ash Wednesday.

Praying on Ash Wednesday at 18th and Park Ave South

Though it was mighty cold Ash Wednesday last year, a hearty cast of GA characters ventured out to the local parks prepared and willing to offer ashes and pray with folks. Fifteen people (including the president and dean of Wartburg Lutheran Seminary, Iowa) split into teams to cover: Union Square, Madison Square Park, Herald Square, and Times Square.  One team stayed at the church all afternoon. These folks stood with about 800 “neighbors” to pray with them by name and remind them how much God loves them. We plan to do the same this year, Mar. 1.

Ash Wednesday 2013 at Union Square Park

We invite you to join us for this powerful and holy experience. We’ll meet for the noon service on Mar. 1 and then head out in teams afterward. Please join us.

Collecting Food for the Hungry and Homeless

As the weather begins to change, life for those who are hungry and homeless becomes even more difficult. Please bring non-perishable food items and place them in the baskets at the sanctuary entrance. The food we collect will be taken to the food pantry at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lower Eastside.

Healing Services

We offer brief healing services on the 1st and 3rd Sundays each month. These are powerful times of anointing and prayer. They are held in the sanctuary after the 11 AM service.

Daily Bible Verse

  • Matthew 5:38-42

"You have heard that it was said, 'An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.' But I say to you, Do not resist an evildoer. But if anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn the other also; and if anyone wants to sue you and take your coat, give your cloak as well; and if anyone forces you to go one mile, go also the second mile. Give to everyone who begs from you, and do not refuse anyone who wants to borrow from you.
